EGP VP Pete Gerhardinger Earns Seventh US Patent

CHICAGO, Ill. (October 12, 2004) – Peter Gerhardinger, vice president of technology at Engineered Glass Products (EGP), has been awarded his seventh U.S. patent. In addition to his most recent efforts in the advancement of EGP’s exclusive Hot Glass™ technology, this patent leverages Gerhardinger’s unmatched knowledge of glass in the appliance industry by creating an improved design for refrigerator shelves.

“This patent builds on our long history of technological leadership.” says Mike Hobbs, CEO of EGP. “I am thrilled with Peter’s accomplishments and I can’t imagine anyone I’d rather have leading our team of engineers.”

As stated in the patent, “This invention relates to spill-proof shelving for appliances such as refrigerators, freezers and the like.” The design involves a shelf of tempered glass with an upturned lip at the front and back. End caps are added to each side so that the shelf becomes, in effect, a shallow, rectangular bowl. Anyone who has ever watched a spilled liquid pour from one shelf onto another or stream down a refrigerator wall will immediately recognize the simple practicality of this design. All spills and leaks are contained to a single shelf.

“No more crying over spilled milk,” Gerhardinger laughs.

With more than 25 years of experience in research and development, Gerhardinger has seven patents to his name. His expertise is recognized by the U.S. Congress, where he has been called on to testify before House and Senate subcommittees on energy efficiency. He has also been a guest speaker at numerous international conferences on technology and the glass industry.

As vice president of technology at Engineered Glass Products, Gerhardinger provides the technological foundation for EGP’s constantly evolving product line. Under Gerhardinger’s leadership, EGP engineers continue to expand the range of applications for Hot Glass™ in a number of industries, including hotels, architecture, restaurants, and more.

Combining more than 50 years of experience with cutting-edge expertise, Engineered Glass Products (EGP) is today’s premier developer of heated glass technology. EGP is headquartered in Chicago, Ill., with a technology center located in Toledo, Ohio.
